In one of my conversations with Scott, my Web Specialist (Ascendant Marketing) he threw out the idea of having an “organic wine of the week” posted on the blog. It was a very serendipitous moment for me because I had never mentioned to him my absolute LOVE of organic wine. I wasn’t sure how well it would relate to other topics I would be posting, but I knew it was something I wanted to add to my blog.
In no way do I consider myself a wine connoisseur. In fact I would imagine that there is probably not a connoisseur on the planet who considers “Boone’s Farm” a wine, like I once did. However, in the past few years, I have developed a passion for a good bottle of wine. I find it therapeutic and enjoy the challenge of trying to decipher the flavors, textures and hints of spices and fruits.
I can’t really help you pair a nice bottle of red wine with an organic steak and onion “confit”, as a true connoisseur can, but I do have my own system of rating my personal favorites. I keep a book in which I list the organic wines I’ve had and rate each one on a scale of 1-5. My least favorites are given one smiley-faced sticker and my favorites five. I also note whether I enjoyed it at sunset, with friends or family, what music, if any I was enjoying at the time along with a few other personal nuances. My system helps me choose the “pick” of the week and I find great enjoyment in doing so.
I firmly believe in the organic, eco, sustainable, movement and practice it in ever aspect of my life when possible. That’s not to say I don’t enjoy a “non” organic wine at times, just that I have a deeper appreciation for the practices and principles of organic wine making.
When you adopt an organic way of life, you feel better physically and mentally, plus you are doing a small part to better our beautiful planet. Wine is such a social bridge in many cultures and I love how it brings people together. Is there any better way to experiment with the organic movement?
Badia a Coltibuono 2005 Chianti Classico ‘RS’ – Sangiovese Red Wine
My organic wine pick of the week is Coltibuono Chianti. I love, love, love Chianti. I found this to be well balanced with a spicy finish. My music of choice was artist Jaymay. The two were a great combo!
