Benjamin Moore has just launched their Natura paint line, which is the most eco-friendly paint to date.
Natura premium interior paint is a zero VOC, virtually odorless formula that doesn’t compromise appearance. Natura provides a durable finish with an unlimited color selection. The paint contains a proprietary 100% acrylic resin that, according to the company, will meet the Master Painter Institute’s Green Performance standard as well as Green Seal’s 2009 GS-11 standard covering chemical content and paint performance—though Benjamin Moore has decided to seek its own independent testing and will not be applying for MPI or GS-11 certification.
Now we can breathe easy knowing that one of the most reliable paint companies is offering the very best for our environmentally sensitive projects.
At the moment the paints are only available in States WA., OR., CA and Texas, but will be available nationwide Spring 2009.

How do these paints hold up? I read an article from a professional painter that said that low VOC paints fade 2 years after application. Do the new low VOC paints fade too?

I think that no VOC paints hold up great! But then again, I’ve never really compared how they fade. I feel it’s more important to take into consideration my health and the environments, rather then the life span of the color on my wall. I’ve not had a problem with eco-friendly paints, in fact, I’ve always been super satisfied. Does that help?

That may have been the case years ago, but the technology has come a long way in terms of low and zero VOC paints. The key to Benjamin Moore’s system is the colourant system that they use. Its waterborne instead of oil based. But its the same ones they use in their Aura line so they must be pretty good.

Where can you buy it? I live in Los Angeles and have called a couple of BM retailers in my area, but no one has this available.

I just a bunch of Natura at Jill’s Paint, in the Atwater Village area (Los Angeles), which is adjacent to Glendale. I think they have the complete BM line.
