I’m a bit of an electronic junkie. I’m always interested in hearing about the new, cool, gadgets on the market, and then when you add a “green” aspect into the design, I dig, dig, dig it! When I saw Vers 2x’s iPod speaker system, I fell for it hard. Unlike most iPod speakers, where the body is usually made of plastic, metal, or some combo of the two, the exterior of these speakers is engineered entirely of hand-crafted, hand-finished, furniture grade cherry veneer over a wood frame. More importantly, the company strives to be environmentally-conscious. For example, the system’s cabinet wood is produced from “sustainably-managed plantation sources”, (a process that uses every bit of the tree).
Vers 2x also uses screws instead of adhesives, and plastic snaps, both of which are better for the environment and make the system easier to take apart and recycle at the end of its lifetime. All packaging, including the protective inserts inside, are made from 100% recycled paper products that are completely re-recyclable, plus they also don’t use plastic or wire cable ties in the packaging.
The 2x’s amplifier is a Class-D switching model which uses less energy than other types of amps, especially when the system is powered down. The front of the 2x hosts two 3-inch speaker drivers, hidden behind a removable, fabric cover. On top is a silver, plastic iPod dock cradle that uses Apple’s common design and charges your iPod, (all models) while docked. It’s pretty to look at, “eco” designed, and it’s got a nice price tag as well!
Have a look for yourself.
