Talk about gold metals, Dell is celebrating the fact that its Studio Hybrid has just been granted Gold status within the EPEAT program, (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool), making the Studio Hybrid the first and only desktop to meet the Gold standard, beating Apple’s Mac Mini and all of HP’s consumer desktop offerings.
A few eco-friendly points of interest on the Studio Hybrid: It’s about 80% smaller than classic desktops and uses up to 70% less power. Its rated by Energy Star with 4.0 standard specifications and an 87% efficient power supply. The Hybrid contains about 75% less printed documentation by weight when compared to typical tower desktops and its packaging is made from 95% recyclable materials.

Dell also offers a free recycling service when you’re ready to upgrade. Dell makes this an easy return by providing you with a “system-recycling kit” that comes with the unit.
Dell was first in the industry to achieve EPEAT Gold for a laptop in 2007. As a result of consumer feedback and Dells hard work, they currently have more Gold listed laptops then any other company.
Dell’s spokesperson stated, “while we are honored with this news, we won’t be resting on our laurels. There is no finish line in this race and our work to provide greener options to our customers is only getting started. We encourage everyone to join with us in coming up with new ideas around energy efficiency and environmentally-responsible options”.
I am a diehard Apple fan at heart, but applaud the green technological options Dell is able to provide their consumers.
