Staying in hostels can sometimes be a dismal experience, (I’ve had my fair share), and often not eco-friendly. Well gone are the days when traveling and staying is hostels meant you would also be bunking with bed bugs and roach infested bathrooms. Eco backpacking is now possible in Barcelona thanks to the Urbany Hostel which opened it’s doors this June 1st .It’s one of a handful of hostels world-wide that has been built with eco-friendly specifications!
Engineers involved in the design project came up with their own account of the three R’s- reduce, reuse, recycle. With these three practices, Barcelona Urbany Hostel is set to have minimal impact on the environment. Some of the eco design includes using a rain water harvesting system and then recycling and reusing 50% of the water, using energy efficiency installations and low consumption lamps, and using more eco-friendly, less aggressive materials.
The 400 bed, 13 story, Urbany is centrally located. It will definitely be a different experience from your typical hostels. Sounds like the perfect place to explore Barcelona, meet cool people, have a great time, while continuing to respect our planet.
