350.org is making huge strides with their exciting new campaign to help fight global warming. Here’s what’s up: The U.S. has historically contributed the most to global warming, and over the past eight years, it’s done very little to stop it. Whoever takes office as U.S. President next year has a ton of work to do to bring the U.S. back to the table and commit the country to taking a strong leadership position on opposing global warming. In December, leaders from all over the world will gather in Poznan, Poland to discuss the next International Climate Treaty. It’s important that citizens from all around the world put pressure on Obama and McCain to ensure they attend the meeting and play their part in getting the U.S. to be a leader on global warming.

In the last two weeks 350.org has sent over 25,000 invitations to McCain and Obama. They’re now shooting to get 35,000 invitations sent in before the U.S. elections on November 4.
Here is what your invitation will look like:

“I’m writing with a simple request: attend the UN Climate Meetings this December and rejoin the world’s fight against the climate crisis.

The need for an international deal has never been greater. NASA’s top climate scientists have said that to avoid disaster the planet needs a plan both to cut carbon emissions sharply and immediately, and to steer a long term path back below 350 parts per million Carbon Dioxide.

And time is running out. The UN Climate Meetings mark a one year countdown to finish crafting an international climate deal.

I call on the U.S. Presidential candidates to commit to going to the UN meeting in Poland in December 2008 to:

*Commit the US to mandatory reductions of Greenhouse gas emissions that meet the urgency science calls for and transition the US to a clean energy economy.

*Commit to helping developing countries reduce their emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change, and to transfer the technology that will help bring the world to more sustainable economies.

Sending this strong signal to the world will help spur the negotiations so that a genuine global agreement meets the seriousness of the problem. The world is ready for action.”

Click here to send your own invitation if you haven’t already and become a part of the project. This is super important!
