Sustainable Food Service Consulting just launched an online resource center for foodservice owners interested in endorsing sustainable business practices.
Sustainable Food Service offers information on energy efficient kitchen equipment, green cleaning products, food waste management, rebates, disposable products, water efficiency, energy efficiency and even tax incentives. The site also provides other useful tools such as energy calculators, energy tracking spreadsheets, and downloadable forms and checklists to help businesses achieve sustainable practices.
Foodservice businesses are a huge and growing market in America. It’s also one of the most wasteful when it comes to energy. According to the Department of Energy, foodservice foundations are the most energy intensive consumers in all of the commercial categories. That means all the little mom and pop restaurants consume more energy per square foot than all the retail giants like Wal-Mart.
Sustainable Food Service has the potential to help reduce the harmful impact restaurants have by educating personnel on their business’ effect on he environment and ways to reduce their environmental footprint. I think this is a great endeavor and I look forward to the changes restaurants make in order to green their establishments.
